§When a code does not work

guide

published on · last reviewed:

You have copied the code, pasted it at checkout and it takes nothing off. Before assuming it is fake: in most cases the code is real and the problem is a condition you cannot see. These are the causes, from most to least frequent, with what you can do about each.

1. It is for new users only

This is the number one cause, by a wide margin. Most welcome codes and all invitation codes require the account to be new to that service. If you signed up three years ago and had forgotten, the system has not: youare no longer a new user. On our store pages this is flagged with the#paranuevos (for new customers) tag, precisely so that you see it before trying.

2. You put it in the wrong box

Many apps have two different boxes: one for discount coupons and another for invitation or referral codes, almost always inside the sign-up or the profile rather than the basket. A referral code entered in the coupon box gives an error even though it is perfectly valid. If the code was given to you by a person, look for the invitation box.

3. You entered it after paying

Practically no store recalculates a closed order. The code has to go in before you confirm the payment. If you have only just realised and the order can be cancelled, the usual solution is to cancel it and redo it from scratch, applying the code.

4. You do not reach the minimum, or the product is excluded

Two very common conditions that rarely appear in the headline: a minimum purchase amount, and excluded categories — typically new arrivals, electronics, gift cards or anything already on sale are left out. On the pages here, the full conditions are in the dropdown of each offer, uncut.

5. It has expired

A code circulating on the internet can have been dead for months: whoever published it never takes it down. This is the underlying problem of the sector, and the reason why every entry here shows its verification date in plain view and why anything expired moves the same day to the archive, with its expiry date written on it.

6. You have already used it on that account

Many codes are single-use per person. And creating another account to reuse one usually goes badly: programmes cross-check much more than your email — payment method, phone number, device, address — so they will normally detect the duplicate, cancel the reward and, depending on the terms, close the account. It is not worth it.

7. It is from another country, or from the app rather than the website

A Spanish code may not apply in the store of another country in the same group, and many promotions workonly in the app or only on the website, not in both. If the code came from an app promotion, try it from your phone before discarding it.

What you should not do

Neither code generators — they do not exist: a code is issued by the store, not by an algorithm — nor paying for a code. Nobody should charge you for something the store gives away free, and whoever does is not selling you a discount, they are selling you hot air. How to tell a real code from a dead one is in the guide onhow to spot a fake code.

If it is one of ours that fails

Tell us: every store page has a "not working?" button. The alert reaches us and we review it. If the code no longer applies what it promises, it is withdrawn as soon as we confirm it and moves to the archive — we do not leave it up "just in case". You can see what is current right now inwhat discounts are on today.

§Frequently asked questions

Why is my discount code not working?

By far the most frequent cause is that the code is for new users only and your account already exists on that service. Next come typing it in the wrong box (the coupon one instead of the invitation one), not reaching the minimum amount, the product being excluded from the promotion, or the code having expired.

Can I apply a code after I have paid?

Almost never. Nearly all stores require you to enter it before confirming payment, and once the order is closed they do not recalculate it. If you notice straight away and the order can be cancelled, the usual solution is to cancel it and place it again, applying the code from the start.

Does creating another account to use a new-user code work?

It usually does not work and it can cost you your account. Welcome and invitation programmes cross-check more than your email: payment method, phone number, device and address. If they detect a duplicate, they will normally cancel the reward, and some terms allow them to close the account outright.

What should I do if a code published on codigoscupones fails?

Press the "not working?" button on its store page. The alert reaches us and we review it: if the code no longer applies what it promises, we withdraw it as soon as we confirm it and it moves to the archive, with its date in plain view.
